The Center for Research And Development of Educational Technology
Outline of CRADLE
The Center for Research and Development of Educational Technology (CRADLE) was established in April, 1973 to help meet the growing need for advanced study on educational methods in higher education. The objective of the Center is the research, development and application of methods of educational technology for the improvement of higher education. This involves the systematic development of hardware, software and their cooperative use, i. e., the development of useware.
International cooperation is also of interest to the Center and staff and students are always ready to engage in an exchange of information with groups or individuals from other countries.
Students in CRADLE come from a variety of departments: electrical and electronics engineering, physical electronics, computer science and systems science, lending the expertise gained from their own field as they learn.
Emphasis is placed on:
- the principles and methods of educational technology
- improvement of existing educational systems and the development of new systems
- development of a higher educational system for lifelong learning
- organization of seminars and workshops to stimulate the broader use of educational technology
- other research and development on educational technology

Annual Industrial Engineering Seminar
A one-week seminar on industrial engineering is offered every summer for teachers and administrators of technical high schools throughout Japan. The program began in 1953 and accommodates approximately seventy people each year. Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, instruction is provided by CRADLE in the latest educational technological methods available and others which are still under development. The program has proved extremely stimulating and popular.
